Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (VITA) Program

Since 2002 the El Paso Collaborative has served the community as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. VITA sites provide free personal income tax preparation to low- and moderate-income households (households with incomes less than $41,646) during income tax season (mid-January to April 15th). Free electronic filing is also available.

EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT

  • EXTRA MONEY provided to low-income wage-earners
  • Must file a tax return to get it
  • Must have a valid social security number (no ITINs)
  • Filing status cannot be “Married Filing Separately”
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien all year
  • If no qualifying children, must be aged 25 to 65
  • Cannot be qualifying child of another person

Days and Times Available – Thursday’s from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. during tax season.

Taxpayers are served on a first-come, first-served basis.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU

  • Original Social Security Cards for EACH taxpayer and ALL dependants
  • Current, state-issued Identification
  • W-2 from each placed worked in prior year

ELECTRONIC FILING REQUIREMENTS

  • If married filing jointly, both taxpayers must be present (If not, we can still prepare a paper return.)

TYPES OF RETURNS PREPARED

  • Simple returns (no itemized expenses)
  • No business returns
  • No retirement income (AARP sites help these taxpayers)
  • No military income (Military sites help these taxpayers)
