Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (VITA) Program

Since 2002 the El Paso Collaborative has served the community as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. VITA sites provide free personal income tax preparation to low- and moderate-income households (households with incomes less than $54,000 for 2017). This service is available only during income tax season. VITA sites also provide free electronic filing.

EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT

  • EXTRA MONEY provided to low-income wage-earners
  • Must file a tax return to get it
  • Must have a valid social security number (no ITINs)
  • Filing status cannot be “Married Filing Separately”
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien all year
  • If no qualifying children, must be aged 25 to 65
  • Cannot be qualifying child of another person

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU

  • Original Social Security Cards for EACH taxpayer and ALL dependants
  • Current, state-issued Identification for taxpayer and spouse
  • W-2 from each placed worked in prior year
  • Other proof for income received during the prior year

TYPES OF RETURNS PREPARED

  • Personal income tax returns (generally the short form)
  • No business returns
  • No retirement income (AARP sites assist these taxpayers)
  • No military income (Military sites assist these taxpayers)

The first 20 eligible households with all required documents will be seen the day of tax preparation!  We start on Feb. 1, every thursday till April 17, 2018 starting at 2pm.
