Since 2002 the El Paso Collaborative has served the community as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. VITA sites provide free personal income tax preparation to low- and moderate-income households (households with incomes less than $41,646) during income tax season (mid-January to April 15th). Free electronic filing is also available.
EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT
- EXTRA MONEY provided to low-income wage-earners
- Must file a tax return to get it
- Must have a valid social security number (no ITINs)
- Filing status cannot be “Married Filing Separately”
- Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien all year
- If no qualifying children, must be aged 25 to 65
- Cannot be qualifying child of another person
Days and Times Available – Thursday’s from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. during tax season.
Taxpayers are served on a first-come, first-served basis.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU
- Original Social Security Cards for EACH taxpayer and ALL dependants
- Current, state-issued Identification
- W-2 from each placed worked in prior year
ELECTRONIC FILING REQUIREMENTS
- If married filing jointly, both taxpayers must be present (If not, we can still prepare a paper return.)
TYPES OF RETURNS PREPARED
- Simple returns (no itemized expenses)
- No business returns
- No retirement income (AARP sites help these taxpayers)
- No military income (Military sites help these taxpayers)
